APPLYING MODS TO CONTROL

An original post from Tumblr on how to install CONTROL mods.

I’m never good at explaining things, but I feel compelled to since I’ve gotten this question more than once. To begin, applying mods to Control shouldn’t be a sore ass, but in case it is I’ll break it down as simply as I can.

Also note that this only works for the PC version (Epic and/or Steam) of the game.

1. For starters, you will need to sign up to Nexus Mods. In fact this is the hub where all mods are stored and literally, the only place you should trust. You will not only find mods for Control here, but of many others that you can think of. Also, it’s what you need if you want to apply mods to Control, so signing up is not a choice.
2. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be able to download Loose Files Loader (located in the Files tab), which is required in order to make any mods work for Control. Also, this is important, when you’re interested in ANY mod you MUST read the description. In the description is where the installation instructions will be. Please, don’t skip this section. Love yourself and save the embarrassment.
3. Alright, so you have read the installation instructions, and downloaded Loose Files Loader. Now you can visit Nexus Control page and check out some mods you are interested in. And again, not to be a hag but please DO NOT SKIP THE DESCRIPTION, because that is where the instructions to install a mod is located. You must read the description.
4. So you made your choice, installed the necessary files, and ready to boot your game with mods installed, exciting! Or maybe not, because you encountered a problem e.g. mod not showing up or Loose Files Loader gave you an error. In case this does happen you will have to troubleshoot, and to do this you will have to visit the page, and e-read the instructions for troubleshooting.

I would have gone in depth, but installation depends on what you download. Texture modding is my area, which is cosmetic, so I can only speak on that. If that’s what you have chosen then you should always get a zipped folder that contains “data_pc.” Most outfit recolours or general retextures often has a path of 

data_pc\textures\characters\andro\jesse\accessories
data_pc\textures\characters\andro\jesse\bottoms
data_pc\textures\characters\andro\jesse\hands
data_pc\textures\characters\andro\jesse\tops

The above is just an example of how texture mods are placed, and depending on the textures you have downloaded the way folders are sorted could be very different.
